Steps Towards Sustainability
The Anindilyakwa Land Council is conscious of the need to make the communities in its care sustainable (ALC Strategic Plan 2012 – 2027). Current reliance on income streams from mining royalties are projected to end sometime in the next decade or so, making the creation of sustainable communities an imperative.
Outcomes
Total PV Installation: 54 kW solar + 110.4 kWh usable battery storage in Little Paradise and 35.4 kW solar + 69 kWh usable storage in Bartalumba Bay
- Potential Energy Consumption Offset: up to 80% +
- Reduced costs equals more funds (long term) for the ALC for the community for other needs
- During the install at both sites, two locals received training in working at heights + for their White Card and were offered the opportunity to be trained in installing solar panels
- Improved infrastructure with installation of 3 phase backbone cable + aerials to distribute loads evenly across phases
- Less noise and greatly reduced air pollution will add to improved health outcomes
